Burning Question:
Is it possible to do interactive educational games for low-income girls to prevent them from dropping out of school?

Brainstorming Stories
MICROBES
You wake up. Disoriented, confused. You are wearing a jacket and trying to find send of all you look through your pockets. You find a note. “Here is your second change. Good luck this time.” You begin thinking harder, trying to find sense in all of this. You can’t so you decide to stand up, you think harder and try to remember the last thing you can make sense of. You feel weak and you feel trapped, you still can’t remember a thing so you start walking but as soon as you realise that you have no destination you stop and freeze. You feel paralysed, scared, the note implied you had already lived this moment, whatever chance you had you are having an opportunity to “make it right” but you still don’t know how did you mess up the last time, in case you did. No one was telling you so.
DECISION
You hurry up and start running because that’s what you do when you feel trapped, you hate this feeling and you want to find out how did you get here to begin with, but still you have nowhere to run so you start running in circles, at least now you feel you’re moving. You feel you’re getting somewhere, except you aren’t.
Who are you? Why are you here? Why would someone give you another chance? Are they only messing up with you? Suddenly you remember you were feeling weak and stop running, maybe it was an adrenaline fuse what set you up but you can’t continue anymore.

Metaphor
Knowledge prepare us for life, it's like a backpack we carry around
Based on that premise I created this story about Planets that are collecting star-shaped-knowledge. Once they complete certain amount of stars they start floating where new challenges are presented untill they finally reach to outer space, where they float and rotate happily. Each time they float higher the tasks are harder but the rewards are better. Planet mercury doesn’t like this dynamic. He truly believes that floating can be achieved on a different way and so he starts looking for different ways to do so. Will he make it up?
Storyboard
Can education be fun?
What about making a very simple story and tomorrow only present the branching of the story with the analogy: Students are like sponges.
Show graphics
A)Make a story that relates to the students that makes them not to drop out of school
B) Make a story that teaches about organisms like sponges!
What I want to use:
Motion graphics
Storytelling
Interactiveness (Give the user agency)
Maybe make the user able to choce by detecting movement (simple choices)
Design Brief
What I want to do is to find a stimulus for young girls in third world countries to keep them from dropping school. I'd like to impulse them to keep going to school despite feeling bored or not feeling it's not worth it. The problem relies in the quality of education and the feeling of underachievement, Female students tend to drop out of school because they feel bored. They purposely get knocked up so they have an excuse to stop going to school and start working so they can get "out of their poverty". This problem has been aroused in many different ways such as trying to improve the quality of the education, with talks or other learning methods, sometimes also with videos about the problem without getting directly to them. This is why, what I would like to do is an interactive story that they can feel part of without telling them directly what to do, more like showing them their possibilities and learning at the time.
I will be making an interactive learning story. The look and feel will address the preferences of my target audience because they will feel identified with the story. The project will be made with after effects, illustrator, and Encore or Flash. The project will be tested in the context of use by the target audience and its role in their lives. Implementation will be tested, as prototypes will be achieved as prototype resolutions become more refined and robust.

Another Idea
"You know when you’re little and the future seems really far away? You don’t know what it looks like, you just hope you’ll have stuff figured out by then you’ll know exactly how to act and feel, you’ll have conquered all your fears and you’ll never feel dumb or uncomfortable. You don’t think about how you’ll actually get there, the middle parts, between now and then. The middle parts suck. " Adventure Time Dialogue
Planets rotate and orbit the sun.
They think comets are so cool
They want to become comets
To become comets they have to do their job
It’s more difficult for planets with natural satellites to do their job?
To become a satellite planets need to do their job for 30 years in a row
Planet X decides to do it
Some Comets always have to keep moving forward, they are always passing by. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see them every 100 years or so.
Comet falls in love with planet Venus
Earth fallts in love with the comet
But both of them need to keep doing their jobs
If Earth stops rotating and Orbiting the sun OR everything inside of her dies
Comet is always running errands, his job is very important for the balance of the galaxy
DECISION: Comet continues running errands?
YES
See Earth every 100 years
Earth continues loving him, everytime he passes by he teaches them about everything he learns throughout the galaxy.
But Comet would like to stay with them, be part of something, be together.
DECISION: Stay?
YES
Stops learning, understands that what he wants is to continue learning (Stops learning, stops “making a living” and Earth looses interest in him as so the other planets.)
NO
Comet continues learning and among all his knowledge he finally understands that by being himself, although he doesn’t get to stay he gets to teach and learn and improve his life and the others around him.
NO
Comet becomes an asteroid, without willpower. Gravity pushes him everywhere.

Improved Brief
My Target Audience needs a stimulus to understand that although life is sometimes not fair everthing is reachable with hardwork and dedication.
The history of this problem is female students drop out of school because they feel bored. They purposely get don't use birth control and become pregnant to have an excuse to stop going to school and start working. Society has been boosting men to continue an education while women are left behind in the common belief of education not being worthy because of the role women usually play (taking care of the kids/house)
When researching the context of this problem, many other designers have addressed this problem with media such as movies where the main conflict is teenagers dropping school. Most of the work done addressing this problem has been done targeted to teenagers. Instead I am proposing to reach a younger audience: 8-9 years old. And try to reach to them as younger minds to plan the seed since younger. Also this issue has been targeted directly as “not dropping school” very literal. I am making instead, an interactive story that they can feel part of without telling them directly what to do, more like showing them their possibilities and learning at the time.
I will be making an interactive learning story. My project involves a big community, it is about trying to give girls equal access to education. I am trying to infuse girls the since very young the importance of hard work, having goals in life and finishing an education. For this I need to learn a lot about my target audience to be able to create a media that appeals to them. I am Trying to infuse girls since very young the empowerment so they demand equal access to education
